What’s Next? Federal Political
and Legislative Update

The federal political landscape continued to witness great convulsions in 2024 and higher education was often in the middle of them. This session will discuss the wide ranging impacts of Supreme Court decisions, legislation, and the federal budget, and will look forward to the elections in November.

Government Relations Update: How We Fared in 2024

Every year, the State Legislature introduces and debates roughly 3,000 bill proposals. This year, the state also faced a massive budget deficit. This session will cover key bills of interest and their outcomes, impacts of the budget cuts, and insights into AICCU advocacy efforts in 2025.

The Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities (AICCU) is comprised of 85+ independent, nonprofit colleges and universities, which make up the Independent California Colleges and Universities (ICCU) sector. The ICCU sector plays a pivotal role in the development of the state’s model higher education offerings and in making California a symbol of innovation across the globe. Within California, ICCU institutions award nearly 20% of all undergraduate degrees and over 50% of graduate degrees, making them the largest preparers of California’s advanced workforce.
